Fireside Chat with Rep. Tom Cole: Securing America’s Health Security [Video]

Please join the CSIS Commission on Strengthening America’s Health Security on Wednesday, May 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, for a fireside chat with Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK-04), member of the CSIS Commission on Strengthening America’s Health Security, Ranking Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, and member of the Appropriations Defense Subcommittee. CSIS Commission co-chairs Julie Gerberding, CEO of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, and Susan Brooks, former U.S. Representative (R-IN-05) will moderate the discussion.A brittle legislative environment and competing geopolitical crises have put the United States at serious risk of falling back into the cycle of crisis and complacency in health security. Pandemic fatigue has settled in as the country marks one million lives lost from Covid-19. What are the prospects for getting the domestic and global funding for the Covid-19 response back on track? How can we sustain a bipartisan dialogue and build consensus around stable, multi-year global health security funding to avoid complacency and ensure continued pandemic preparedness? This event is made possible by the generous support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.---------------------------------------------A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world. The Future of Quantum – Driving Innovation and Security from the Government [Video]

Quantum has the potential to drive economic growth and bring innovation to a range of industries, from advancing our national defense to revolutionizing the foundations of computing. With the potential benefits of quantum, there are also significant risks, such as the ability for a quantum computer to break much of the public-key encryption used across the world. Recent initiatives, like the Executive Order on Enhancing the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee and the National Security Memorandum on Promoting United States Leadership in Quantum Computing While Mitigating Risks to Vulnerable Cryptographic Systems demonstrate ways in which the government is seeking to balance the opportunities for technological change with the proposed security risks of quantum applications.Join CSIS for the next event in the Future of Quantum Series to discuss the government's approach to promoting and safeguarding against innovations in quantum.---------------------------------------------A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world.
