Russian Philosopher Alexander Dugin: In Ukraine, Russia Is Fighting the Liberal World Order

Prominent Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin said in a March 19, 2022 interview on Al-Jazeera TV (Qatar) that Russia will either win in Ukraine and be accepted as a sovereign superpower, or “there will be no Putin, no Russia, no world.” He said that any NATO intervention will be responded to “in kind,” including the use of nuclear weapons if NATO launches a nuclear attack against Russia. He emphasized: “The decision to continue with the operation to our last breath has been taken.” In addition, Dugin said that Russia’s war in Ukraine is not against Ukraine as a country, but against “American hegemony” and the “global liberal elites who are trying to take over the world.” He also said that Putin is so popular that the people have effectively made him Russia’s “natural monarch.” For more about Alexander Dugin, see MEMRI TV Clips No. 9433 and No. 7839.

The Future of Quantum – Driving Innovation and Security from the Government [Video]

Quantum has the potential to drive economic growth and bring innovation to a range of industries, from advancing our national defense to revolutionizing the foundations of computing. With the potential benefits of quantum, there are also significant risks, such as the ability for a quantum computer to break much of the public-key encryption used across the world. Recent initiatives, like the Executive Order on Enhancing the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee and the National Security Memorandum on Promoting United States Leadership in Quantum Computing While Mitigating Risks to Vulnerable Cryptographic Systems demonstrate ways in which the government is seeking to balance the opportunities for technological change with the proposed security risks of quantum applications.Join CSIS for the next event in the Future of Quantum Series to discuss the government's approach to promoting and safeguarding against innovations in quantum.---------------------------------------------A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world. Libyan Islamic Scholar: Shireen Abu Akleh Was a Christian, So We Are Forbidden from Praying for Her [Video]

On May 12, 2022, Libyan Islamic scholar Sheikh Zain Khairallah posted to his YouTube channel a video in which he commented on the previous-day death of Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the crossfire between Israeli forces and Palestinian terrorists in the West Bank city of Jenin. Sheikh Khairallah said that because Abu Akleh was a Christian, it is forbidden for Muslims to pray for Allah to forgive her sins or have mercy on her soul. On the Future of the Marine Corps: Assessing Force Design 2030 [Video]

Please join the CSIS International Security Program for a panel discussion of the Marine Corps’ force restructure initiative “Force Design 2030.” This initiative, described in a series of documents, emphasizes disaggregated forces operating inside an adversary’s weapon engagement zone, working closely with the Navy, and adding extensive reconnaissance/counter-reconnaissance capabilities. These “stand-in forces” would be light, mobile, and armed with long-range precision strike weapons. Some of the changes―such as the elimination of tanks, reduction in the number of tube artillery units, and cuts to rotary-wing aviation― have raised concerns that the Marine Corps is backing away from its traditional focus on combined arms and global engagement.Moderating the panel is CSIS Senior Advisor Mark Cancian. Members of the panel include the Honorable Robert Work, former Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Dov Zakheim, former Undersecretary of Defense (Comptroller), Gen Anthony Zinni (Ret), former commander, Central Command (CENTCOM), and LtGen Paul Van Riper, former commander, Marine Corps Combat Development Command. This event made possible by general support to CSIS International Security Program.---------------------------------------------A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world.
