Please join the Renewing American Innovation Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) for a virtual discussion of Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla’s new book Moonshot: Inside Pfizer’s Nine-Month Race to Make the Impossible Possible. CSIS President and CEO Dr. John Hamre, will be joined by Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla to unpack this remarkable story of how Pfizer’s scientists responded to the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver the world a revolutionary new vaccine to the world in only nine months.
A veterinarian by training, Dr. Bourla began his career at Pfizer in 1993 in Greece and emigrated to the U.S. in 2001. He has been Pfizer’s CEO since 2018 and the chairman since 2020. Bourla was awarded the 2022 Genesis Prize for his leadership in the development of the Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, and in 2020 he was ranked as America’s top CEO in the pharmaceutical industry by Institutional Investor.
The story that Dr. Bourla’s book tells is one of American ingenuity and innovation that highlights the strategic asset that the U.S. biopharmaceutical sector lends to the nation’s national security and soft power.
