Syrian Military Analyst: My Blood Used to Boil When I Saw Israeli Flag, But Iran Is Shared Enemy Now

Turkey-based Syrian military analyst Colonel (Ret.) Hatem Al-Rawi said in a June 27, 2022 interview on the Arabic-language Channel 9, a Turkey-based Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated channel, that in the past, his blood would boil whenever he saw an Israeli flag, but that he now welcomes the Israeli flag when strikes Iranian militias and assets in Syria. He said that even though Israel is still an occupier, his views towards it have changed because of the regional threat posed by Iran. He elaborated that Iran’s actions in the region have already turned Israel into no more than an “enemy on hold” in the eyes of the Arab world, and he said that a “Middle Eastern NATO” will happen “with us our without us”. British Islamic Scholar on Passing of Muslim Brotherhood Spiritual Leader Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradwi [Video]

On September 26, 2022, an interview with British Islamic Scholar Dr. Anas Altikriti, the CEO of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Cordoba Foundation, was posted on 5Pillars channel on YouTube. The interview was about the legacy of the Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradawi, who had died earlier that day. In the interview, Dr. Altikriti spoke about Al-Qaradawi’s 2005 visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of London mayor Ken Livingstone (see MEMRI TV Clips Nos. 480, 494, and 497). He said that had the “narrow-minded” neocons and Zionists not highlighted statements made by Al-Qaradawi in support of suicide bombing (see MEMRI TV Clip No. 45) and wife beating, then Al-Qaradawi’s presence in the UK would have been received differently by the British Muslim and non-Muslim public and the July 7, 2005 London bombings may have been prevented. For more about Dr. Anas Altikriti, see MEMRI TV Clip No 808.

Report Launch: Software-Defined Warfare [Video]

A forthcoming report by the inaugural Chief Technology Officer of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and former Director of the Department of Defense's (DOD) Joint AI Center discusses key concerns and recommendations onredesigning the DOD for next generation war fighting systems. In future crises and conflicts, the side that adapts faster and demonstrates the greatest agility—to include rapidly updating and promulgating fielded software and AI models—is likely to gain a significant competitive advantage. For the United States to retain its dominant position in the future—which is not a guaranteed outcome—the DOD needs a new design and architecture that will allow it to be far more flexible, scale on demand, and adapt dynamically to changing conditions. The only way for the DOD to stay competitive in this new warfighting environment is to ensure that it uses the most potent weapon available: technology, and more specifically, software.Join CSIS for a panel discussion on software-defined warfare with Nand Mulchandani, CTO of the CIA, and Lt. General (Ret.) John N.T. “Jack” Shanahan, former Director of the DOD's Joint AI Center. This event is made possible by general support to CSIS.---------------------------------------------A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world.
