He is currently a professor emeritus at Eastern Illinois University and an adjunct professor at the University of Texas. His current research interests include reducing risk of heart disease through phytonutrient and dietary intervention, controlling weight through mindful eating and stealthy calorie intake restriction, and developing delicious dishes made with whole foods that are low in added sugar and high in nutrients.Jim has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations to his credit and has authored the textbooks The Art of Nutritional Cooking and Nutrition You Can Use. His latest book, Let’s Eat Mindfully!, is designed for the lay person to use as a tool to consume less by changing the dining environment. He and his wife Rosemary spend their time split between South Padre Island, Texas, and Champaign, Illinois, where their two sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren reside. For more information on Jim Painter click: https://reasons.org/team/jim-painter CONNECT WITH DR. Design of RNA Structure and Critical Theory in Physics | Stars, Cells, and God [Video]

#scienceandfaith #apologetics #christianity Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Jeff Zweerink as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, including the reality of God’s existence.Design of RNA Structure (Fuz Rana)Are biochemical systems the products of unguided, historically contingent evolutionary processes shaped by natural selection? Or is there another explanation for their structure and function? Researchers demonstrate that the laws of physics and chemistry predetermine RNA secondary structure, and these structures are precisely those needed to support RNA’s central role in biochemistry. This anthropic coincidence adds to the case for a biochemical manifestation of the anthropic principle and evidence for a Creator’s role in the origin of life.References:Kamaludin Dingle et al., “Phenotype Bias Determines How Natural RNA Structures Occupy the Morphospace of All Possible Shapes,” https://doi.org/10.1093/molbev/msab280Critical Theory in Physics (Jeff Zweerink)One of the central tenets of science is the ability to test any explanation against data from the real world. The fact that science is done by people means bias and unfairness get introduced into the process, yet scientists have a vested interest in eliminating this unfair aspect. Some want to use a misguided approach of looking at physics and physics education through the lens of critical theory—an approach that will almost certainly undermine the scientific enterprise. I discuss a peer-reviewed, published paper showing how critical theory analyzes physics instruction. References: Amy D. Robertson and W. “What Makes Genesis Different?” with Joe Miller | Dual Revelation [Video]

Hebrew cosmology—written by Moses in an ancient language for ancient peoples—reflects the unique Hebrew worldview, which was shaped through the direct revelation of YHWH. The inspired nature of Moses’s historical narrative gives the modern reader confidence that we can understand the meaning of the text. The uniqueness of Genesis as theo-history means that Hebrew cosmology offers a dependable foundation for knowing something true about our material origins, shaping ethical priorities, directing moral decision making, and guiding scientific inquiry. To show how Genesis differs from ancient Near Eastern mythologies, Joe Miller explores three essential elements of the Hebrew worldview: (1) Genesis is monotheism, not panentheism; (2) Genesis is special revelation, not cultic theology; and (3) Genesis is theo-history, not mytho-history.Help us create even more empowering resources!Support Reasons to Believe at: https://support.reasons.org/donate-now?source=OLYOUTUBEFollow RTB_Official for updates!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RTBofficialTwitter: https://twitter.com/RTB_officialInstagram: http://instagram.com/rtb_officialWebsite: http://www.reasons.org

“Concordism and ‘Hybrid Models’: What if Genesis Clearly Taught Neo-Darwinism?” with Ted Cabal | DR [Video]

Would evangelicals abandon concordism if Genesis seemed to teach the complete neo-Darwinian “package”? Or do most evangelicals, including some evolutionary creationists, prefer to retain some version of concordism, as seen in their continued development of “hybrid theological/scientific models”? Since the Darwinian revolution, concordism appears to have fallen on hard times. One challenge for evangelicals is that much of the debate hinges on definitions (“What is concordism?”) and practices (construction of hybrid models).Help us create even more empowering resources!Support Reasons to Believe at: https://support.reasons.org/donate-now?source=OLYOUTUBEFollow RTB_Official for updates!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RTBofficialTwitter: https://twitter.com/RTB_officialInstagram: http://instagram.com/rtb_officialWebsite: http://www.reasons.org

Neanderthal Brains, Redux and Local Realism Is Dead | Stars, Cells, and God [Video]

#scienceandfaith #apologetics #christianity Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Jeff Zweerink as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, including the reality of God’s existence.Neanderthal Brains, ReduxAre human beings exceptional? Recent work by a large collaborative team from the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, explores this question by examining the behavior of the TKLT-1 protein in archaic and modern humans. This discovery points to differences in brain development in modern humans and Neanderthals, suggesting cognitive differences between the two.References:Anneline Pinson et al., “Human TKTL1 Implies Greater Neurogenesis in Frontal Neocortex of Modern Humans than Neanderthals,” https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abl6422 Vita Stepanova et al., “Reduced Purine Biosynthesis in Humans after Their Divergence from Neanderthals,” https://elifesciences.org/articles/58741 Additional Resources:Fazale Rana, “Brain Organoids Cultivate the Case for Human Exceptionalism,” https://reasons.org/explore/blogs/the-cells-design/brain-organoids-cultivate-the-case-for-human-exceptionalism Fazale Rana, “Key Difference in Developing Human and Neanderthal Brains,” https://reasons.org/explore/blogs/the-cells-design/key-difference-in-developing-human-and-neanderthal-brains Local Realism Is DeadIn our macroscopic world where quantum mechanical effects seem remote, we operate as though the universe obeys two obvious properties. However, a suite of experiments over the past five decades demonstrates that both properties can’t be true in the world of quantum mechanics. We’ll describe the experiments that establish this remarkable conclusion as well as the implications for the science/faith discussion.Reference:Michael Schirber, “Nobel Prize: Quantum Entanglement Unveiled,” https://physics.aps.org/articles/v15/153 Help us create even more empowering resources!Support Reasons to Believe at: https://support.reasons.org/donate-now?source=OLYOUTUBEFollow RTB_Official for updates!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RTBofficialTwitter: https://twitter.com/RTB_officialInstagram: http://instagram.com/rtb_officialWebsite: http://www.reasons.org
